Jackson County Exceptional School

Update on Mask Requirement

Dear Parents, Students, Employees and Community:

All employees, students, and visitors to any school district campus will be required to wear a mask while indoors and on buses beginning Monday, Aug. 2, 2021. This is being implemented out of abundance of caution due to the increase in COVID cases throughout Mississippi.

Let me explain the reasoning behind this decision. Mississippi had 1,342 new Covid cases on July 28, 2020. Yesterday, one year later, the number of Covid cases reached 1,875. This is an increase of over 500 cases.

Safety is our top priority. All cleaning and purification systems are in place, and we continue to install water filling stations throughout the district.

The school district is partnering with Singing River Health System and will have COVID vaccinations available for ANY PGSD employee from 3-5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, in the front parking lot of Pascagoula High School.

The mask requirement will be re-evaluated at the Sept. 13, 2021, school board meeting when we provide our Covid update to our school board. We look forward to a great school year with your children, and we are taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.
